Remembering The Legend

Micheal Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009)

As the seventh child of the Jackson family, he made his debut as a member of The Jackson 5. He began his solo career in 1971 and was referred to as the "King of Pop". Michael's 1982 album Thriller remains the world's best-selling album of all time, and four of his other solo studio albums are among the world's best-selling records: Off the Wall, Bad, Dangerous, and HIStory.

Michael’s dance skills were perfect. With stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of physically complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk, and the anti-gravity lean. His choreography was a perfect blending of popping, locking, animation, and hip hop inspired all the dancers in the world, and together with his talents, his influence on modern-day celebrities and dancers like Chris Brown, Rain, and many others is unquestionable.

The King of Pop left us on the 25^th of June, 2009. He died of cardiac arrest, at his home in Los Angeles, California, reportedly one hour after receiving an injection of pethidine.

SMASH Dance Party 2009 - Just Around The Corner!

Unlike common dance studios which only focuses on lessons and classes, SMASH Studio is a cut above the rest. Each year, apart from conducting classes and training dancers, as well as the newly introduced dance exams, there will be an event of the year to which everyone look forward to - The Annual SMASH Studio Dance Party.

There will be performances, songs, music, food and beverages, dance floors...ALL you can imagine.

New Jazz + Reggae Class Coming Up!

That's right, the title says it all. SMASH Studio will be starting a New Jazz + Reggae Class this Saturday (27th June) at 2.30 pm.

As always, the 1st class is always FREE to all members and a mere price of RM 18 ONLY to non-members. Ladies, put on your dance outfits and FEEL the hip hop jazz beat! Bring along your friends and beloved ones for the hottest offering in town!

SMASH Studio in Floor Combat 2009

SMASH Studio was invited to conduct dance workshops at Cineleisure recently in conjuction with the Floor Combat 2009 event. Chris Ooi of Elecoldxhot was the special guest invited to conduct popping workshops on the 11th of June.

The dance stage equipped with loud speakers to attract the public. It was raining heavily and the sound of the music was affected, but it certainly didn't stop people from coming and surrounding the dance floor.

Cool hunks whom are interested gathering at the dance floor set up at the entrance. Many people gathered around the dance floor to observe the workshop.

The 1st SMASH Studio Dance Exam

In conjunction with our main goal to improvise our fellow dancers to perfection, SMASH will be conducting our first ever Dance Exam.

Successful completion of these graded examinations in any dance style provides a way of assessing progress from year to year and of maintaining commercial industry recognized standards, as well as develop self-discipline, commitment and provide a strong sense of accomplishment and success.

The examination will be assessed by a panel of examiners and judges appointed by SMASH. Students are required to perform solo or group dances learnt from the dance repertoire of a choreographer/instructor.


An example of the examination structure: All examinations will begin from Grade 1. Students in the popping class will be assessed with basic skills of hitting, waving, bopping and slow motion.



The rewards of the exam : ) Students who pass will be rewarded with a certificate and a hip hop cap.
